Entrevista a Cirilo Mba Memba

Conversamos con Cirilo Mba Memba, 47 años, gestor especializado en servicios sociales a personas con discapacidad, gestor de la Once, amante e intérprete de la música desde su infancia, y uno de los impulsores del teatro experimental: un acercamiento del teatro al espectador ciego. Entre cafés y música rock and roll, Cirilo nos cuenta lo que el arte le ha dado y comparte buenos consejos con nuestros lectores.

¿Cuál fue tu primer contacto con la música? Cuéntanos tu recorrido vital por la música.

Mi primer contacto fue de muy pequeño, porque mi padre era un melómano, le gustaba muchísimo la música y en casa nos ponía música clásica, zarzuelas, óperas…de ahí nació mi pasión por la música. A los trece años empecé a tocar la batería, y después pasé al piano. Tanto la percusión como el piano me parecen maravillosos, y aunque aparentemente es un cambio drástico, ambos instrumentos se complementan bastante bien. En la actualidad toco el cajón flamenco.

Desde entonces, ¿Qué te ha dado la música?

Pienso que la música es algo que directamente te hace feliz. Hay otras experiencias humanas que también son satisfactorias, pero como la música escuchada y más aún interpretada, no hay nada. Puedes disfrutar siendo un buen matemático o un doctor en una ciencia, pero la música es algo indudablemente especial.

¿Consideras que la música te ha ayudado con la discapacidad visual?

Yo creo que sí. Si consideramos la terapia como un conjunto de estrategias para reestablecer el equilibrio, la salud, el bienestar de la persona, indudablemente e inequívocamente el Arte sí es terapéutico. En el caso de las personas con alguna discapacidad, es doblemente terapéutico porque te permite realizarte, llegar al límite de tu expresividad, de tus emociones y sensaciones, te permite tocar el cielo con las manos al vivir o hacer el arte. Se trata de un torrente de endorfinas que te transporta a otro mundo, y sumergido en ese océano de bienestar desaparecen las fronteras, las discapacidades… En ese momento no tienes la sensación de ser diferente o con alguna dificultad en relación a los demás. En ese momento eres feliz de una manera muy diferente a la cotidianeidad, cuando estás luchando contra barreras de todo tipo, mentales, arquitectónicas, sociales…

¿Qué proyectos musicales tienes en la actualidad?

Estoy tocando en un grupo amateur de versiones de música Pop en español que se llama El Grupo de Cristina. Empezamos siendo dos componentes, Cristina y yo, y poco a poco estamos ampliando el grupo. Todos somos personas que trabajamos en la Once, ciegos totales excepto Cristina. Empezamos a tocar y poco a poco nos empezaron a ofrecer hacer conciertos en diferentes salas de Madrid.

En la ponencia del curso de verano de la UNED te presentaron como crítico de teatro y participante del teatro experimental. Cuéntame ¿qué es el teatro experimental y a quien va dirigido?.

Es una iniciativa del grupo de teatro con el que colaboro, dirigido y protagonizado por una actriz fantástica que se llama Eva Romero, que tiene una escuela de teatro en un pueblo de Badajoz. Ha trabajado con niños con discapacidad psíquica y tiene experiencia a la hora de integrarles en sus grupos teatrales. Contactó conmigo hace un par de años para hacer accesible el teatro para las personas ciegas, de modo que yo me enrolé en el grupo de críticos para proponer medidas y soluciones de accesibilidad para ayudar al espectador ciego a acceder a la información de las escenas en el teatro, como por ejemplo subir al escenario antes de la obra para reconocer el espacio. Buscamos estructurar y elaborar las ideas para convertirlas en soluciones estándar, y así hacerlas llegar a iniciativas similares en el futuro. Se trata de una iniciativa novedosa enfocada más bien al espectador ciego y no tanto al actor. Intenta superar las iniciativas llevadas a cabo hasta ahora en el cine tales como el sistema de audiodescripción. El cine y el teatro son dos expresiones artísticas muy diferentes con un lenguaje propio y ahí hemos detectado la necesidad.

¿Este tipo de iniciativas invitan también al espectador vidente?

Claro que sí. Con este tema ocurre lo mismo que con todas las medidas de accesibilidad universal ¿El rebaje de las aceras es solo útil para las personas ciegas o también le viene bien a la mamá que va con el carrito del bebé? El que suene el semáforo cuando está en verde para el peatón también aporta información al vidente y le viene bien. El objetivo que buscamos es amplificar el sentido del tacto: que los actores trabajen a escasos centímetros del espectador y que en un momento dado éste les pueda tocar. Esto ayuda a que se transmita una gran cantidad de información, igual de potente para la persona que ve. Porque no es lo mismo ver llorar a alguien que tocar sus lágrimas. Es de una fuerza emocional irresistible para todos.

¿En qué medida crees que el arte puede ser terapéutico para un niño o adolescente?

El arte es fundamental para cualquier discapacidad. Contribuye mucho a que el niño desarrolle otras capacidades que seguro que tiene y que no están afectadas, además de ayudarle a ser feliz y transmitir felicidad a su entorno. Yo recomiendo a las familias que no lo duden: tanto el arte como el deporte son muy terapéuticos y satisfactorios. Los padres muchas veces se preocupan de lo que no puede hacer su hijo pero se olvidan de lo que sí puede hacer, así que yo les animo a que exploren porque se van a quedar muy sorprendidos de las muchísimas cosas que sí puede hacer su hijo. El arte es además un elemento de integración y un modo de obtener un reconocimiento a pesar de la dificultad inicial que un niño pueda tener.

¿Qué consejos darías a nuestros lectores sobre qué pueden hacer ellos en casa?

Lo primero que les diría es que se informen, que acudan a especialistas, a asociaciones…que llamen a todas las puertas y busquen información debajo de las piedras, para que no se queden con los brazos cruzados. Hay numerosos proyectos que se desconocen o infrautilizan. En segundo lugar les diría que no sobreprotejan a sus hijos, que aunque tenga detrás la mejor de las intenciones, esto no ayuda a que los niños aprendan a levantarse cuando se caen, a no volver a chocarse con obstáculos…en definitiva es bueno que el niño viva experiencias, por muy traumáticas que puedan parecernos ya que luego no lo son tanto. Yo les animo a que muestren su cariño a sus hijos a través del tacto, las caricias y los abrazos. Por último les animo a que hagan pequeñas representaciones teatrales en familia, jugando en casa con un reparto pequeño de papeles adaptados a la edad del niño o a su discapacidad, que permitirá al niño tomar conciencia con la ficción del juego y de la simulación.
